Well "stupid nub" was not part of it, but one of the things that people are
forgetting now in these days of widely portable platforms is that you
*always* have system dependencies that need isolation. So those parts become
the irritating seeds in the oyster of your code that help you to learn to
produce pearls of well-structured systems :)
